The CODESYS Group has been developing and marketing safety software that is certified according to IEC 61508 for more than 10 years. In 2023, the company has announced CODESYS Virtual Safe Control SL, a virtual safety control system that is to be certified for SIL3 applications independently of special hardware.
The new product has now passed the technical release process. This includes numerous integration tests, as well as the processing of feedback from TÜV Süd, the certification institute. TÜV Süd has been involved in the development of the product right from the start, evaluating risk analyses and already approving the safety concept at the end of 2023. As soon as the certificate for CODESYS Virtual Safe Control SL has been issued, Audi plans to be the first customer to integrate the virtual safety PLC into car body production lines and use it in serial production.
The certificate is expected to be available in December 2024. Audi and CODESYS plan to put the first virtual safety controls into operation starting in mid-2025.
