Vendor lock-in is a thing of the past – diversity and openness is the future
Who wants to be dependent on a single supplier? Supply chain problems, discontinuation of panels used and the associated HMI software, and changing PLCs that have to be used at the request of the end customer are constant challenges for companies in mechanical and plant engineering.
For both the PLC and the HMI, the engineering software provided by the respective manufacturer must always be used. In many cases, implementation starts from scratch. In any case, the teams must be trained and have appropriate experience with the desired products. Effort that can be better invested in optimizing a single solution and thus better able to compete.
